Updated: Tuesday Funk Jam to bring out the funk in support of Bob Moog Foundation and Give!Local

Come on out and shake your hips to local funk music while supporting a good cause at the Asheville Music Hall’s Funk Jam Benefit for the Bob Moog Foundation on Tuesday, Dec. 13 (tonight) at 11 p.m. This special benefit edition of the well-loved weekly funk music jam offers an easy way to donate to the Moog Foundation’s mission of igniting creativity in children and adults through interactive experiences at the intersection of science, music, history and innovation.

The Moog Foundation provides the hallmark educational program — Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool — which teaches 1,500 Asheville-area second graders yearly about the science of sound through an experiential 10-week curriculum. They provide the materials, training and the curriculum at a nominal fee for the school districts to facilitate this STEM-based learning experience.

Want to help, but can’t make it to the funk jam? You can easily donate online to MOOG at givelocalguide.org

Press release from Asheville Music Hall:

Tonight, Asheville’s Tuesday Night Funk Jam will be performing for a cause close to the musician’s hearts, the The Bob Moog Foundation. Moog, who invented his namesake synthesizer that three of the musicians tonight will be playing, lived in Asheville for over 25 years before his passing in 2005. The Bob Moog Foundation carries Moog’s legacy forward and has proudly served over 5,000 children in Asheville through their innovative science education program, Dr. Bob’s #SoundSchool. The event tonight takes place at the Asheville Music Hall downtown from 11pm to 2am.

In addition to the talented house band that performs each Tuesday night, consummate Asheville musicians Ben Hovey (HoveyKraft) and Jamar Woods (The Fritz) will be performing, both on Moog synthesizers, as will Jeff Knorr, the house band’s keyboardist.

“Bob Moog was a visionary and a pioneer. It is a privilege and an honor to play the instruments he created. In the right hands they have the ability to produce a nearly infinite number of sounds. My journey with Moog started 5 years ago when I bought my first Moog for Christmas and now, 5 years later, that gift continues to surprise and inspire me just like it did the first time I played it. That’s why I’m thankful that Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool is providing that same experience to children and showing them that, much like a Moog, their possibilities are endless”. – Jamar Wood (the Fritz) shares.

The purpose of tonight’s event is to raise awareness for the Bob Moog Foundation’s Give!Local campaign, which is part of a larger campaign sponsored by the Mountain Xpress to raise funding for area non-profits. There will be a special incentive offered for attendees to tonight’s show to support the campaign. All proceeds will benefit Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool.

The Bob Moog Foundation is an independent 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. They are not affiliated with Moog Music, Inc. Their funding is generated though hundreds of donors.
