The Buncombe County Board of Education will meet in regular session on
May 5, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. in the Minitorium at 175 Bingham Road, Asheville. Board updates and closed session will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Beaucatcher Room for the purpose of discussing confidential personnel, student, and attorney client matters.
Public Comment will be accepted in person. Members of the public wishing to speak will need to come to Entrance “B”. Doors will open at 4:45 p.m. and speakers must arrive no later than 5:15 p.m. to complete entrance screening procedures and sign in to speak. In an effort to expedite safety screenings, we ask that bags or water bottles not be brought into the building. Speakers will be called in the order in which they signed up. All speakers will have precisely three minutes to speak and must adhere to guidelines set forth in BCS Policy #2310 – Public Participation, including all reasonable rules established by the Superintendent. Profane language, making threats, or revealing confidential student or staff information will not be allowed. Please address the Board as a whole. Note that the Board will not be able to respond directly to public comment.

In the latest issue of the Mountain Times the voter guide includes the candidates running for the BOE. One of the candidates, Jose’ “Pepi” Acebo is included. I have some information that should be brought to the attention of those who may want to support his candidacy.
Pepi used to be the proprietor of a small business named Oatmeal Advertising. My company at the time, Highland Mapping, hired him to design a website. Upon agreeing to terms, we signed a contract and paid him $1200 as a deposit. He never delivered a draft, much less a fully developed website. He simply pocketed the money and disappeared. We took him to Small Claims Court in Buncombe County, got a judgement against him, and still have not received a dime in restitution.
For someone who wants to run for BOE on a platform of “fiscal health” it seems rather absurd given his inability to handle his own finances. The voters deserve to know that Pepi is a crook, that he blatantly stole from another small business and has no qualms at all about ignoring a Court decree.

Voters deserve better than a swindler on the Board of Education.
