“Dogs and Cats”(Asheville, NC) – Join Parkway rangers at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 18 for an easy to moderate, 2 mile round-trip hike that is right in Asheville’s backyard. Everyone is familiar with domestic dogs and cats. But just how much do you know about their wild cousins? Come learn about coyotes, foxes, bobcats, and even mountain lions. Find out what makes the wildlife so wild!
Meet at Craven Gap at Milepost 377.4. Wear good hiking shoes, bring water and a flashlight, and be prepared for changeable weather.

Blue Ridge Parkway Hike of the Week
“Walking the Big Butt”(Asheville, NC) – Join Parkway rangers at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 19 for a moderate, 3.2 mile round-trip hike on the Big Butt Trail. Learn how changing forest habitat affects high elevation wildlife. We will also discuss how the boundary is marked and its importance.
Meet at the Walker Knob Overlook at Milepost 359.8. Bring water, wear good walking shoes and be prepared for changeable weather.
