Press release from Children First:
Did you know that 1 in 4 children live in poverty here in Buncombe County? Over 9,000 of our local children are living in vulnerable conditions-enough to fill 21 elementary schools!
Children First / Communities In Schools (CIS) helps children in need experience the joys of the holidays through its Holiday Giving Program. But we cannot run this program without YOU! We match you with a local child or children and the magic begins!
Each child is asked “what do you want, what do you need, what do you wear and what do you read” and you use this information to purchase these 4 gifts, then deliver them to our Family Resource Center, and a child is able to experience the joys of the holidays.
HOW: Sign up to sponsor a child here. This will take you to a form and once completed someone will contact you to give you details on the child(ren) you are sponsoring. Otherwise email Kate Frost at KateF@childrenfirstbc.org or call her at 828-214-5052
WHEN: All gifts need to be at the Family Resource Center at Emma by December 2nd for family pick up! Please wrap gifts and write the child’s name and family number on gift-tags.
WHERE: Please deliver wrapped gifts to our Family Resource Center located on the campus of Emma Elementary School at 37 Brickyard Rd. in West Asheville. The Resource Center is located in a brown modular unit with a wooden ramp next to the community garden. Directions are at www.childrenfirstcisbc.org or call 828-259-9717.
