Panel Decision in conjunction with “Red: A Forty-Year Exploration Of Female Sexuality”

Moderated by Jolene Mechanic, former owner of the Phil Mechanic Building in the River Arts District and long-time force in the Asheville arts scene, the panel will examine the differences in which sexuality effects the lives of women. Things to be considered will include generational differences, gender identity differences, and media and pop culture’s influence on female sexuality. The discussion will end with questions such as where we, as women, go from here.
The panel will include: Laura Vance, Professor for Gender and Women’s Studies at Warren Wilson College. Vance is also the author of “Women in New Religions” published by NYU Press. Joining her will be Margret Curtis, human rights activist, mother of two young sons and an acclaimed artist with an active career. The panel will be rounded out with Dr. Martha Salyers, who has spent 30 years as a family practice physician, was the former director of the Buncombe County Health Department and currently serves as a preparedness consultant to the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians.
