Henderson County Cooperative Extension hosts food preservation workshops May 9, 23

The Henderson County Center of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension has announced a series of upcoming food preservation classes to be held in May at the Cooperative Extension office at the Henderson County Center, 100 Jackson Park Road in Hendersonville. Both classes will explore food preservation techniques and offer tips to attendees on to preserve their own foodstuffs.

The first set of classes, titled “Food Preservation: Canning High and Low Acid Foods,” will take place on Monday, May 9 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. “Whether you’re experienced or a novice at food preservation, you’ll want to attend this workshop covering the latest information on canning high and low acid foods,” says Renay Knapp, Family and Consumer Science Extension Agent with the N.C. Cooperative Extension.

The second set of classes will take place on Monday, May 23 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. This class, titled “Jams, Pickling, Freezing and Drying,” will “walk you through each of these methods of food preservation, the science behind it and the equipment you will need,” according to Knapp.
