Polk County government takes control of Columbus Farmers Market

Press release from Polk County:

It has been brought to the attention of Polk County Local Government by the board of directors of the nonprofit Growing Rural Opportunities, or GRO, that there has been a potential mishandling of money associated with GRO.

To serve the best interest of the taxpayers of Polk County and the funding donated by citizens and the Polk County Community Foundation, Polk County Local Government is assuming responsibility of the Columbus Farmers Market effective at the Saturday, June 8, market.

“We are glad to help GRO manage during this time of transition,” Polk County Manager Marche Pittman said. “Polk County is committed to ensuring that this Farmers Market sustains to help our agricultural community.”
