Statement from Rep. Brian Turner, D-Buncombe:
June 26, 2020 (ASHEVILLE)—Following the passage of HB 806 from both chambers of the North Carolina General Assembly, Representative Brian Turner (D-Buncombe) released the following statement:
“Representing a district filled with countless independent fitness studios, I’m proud to support legislation that will get our state’s 2.5 million health club members moving again and put our 45,000 fitness employees back to work. This science-backed plan to safely reopen fitness facilities in Asheville and statewide will allow North Carolinians to resume their fitness routines during a time when exercise is more important than ever. I urge Governor Cooper to sign HB 806 into law; the physical and mental health of our communities, as well as our economy, depend on it.”
More than 90 days have passed since North Carolina’s 985 fitness facilities have been closed and their 45,000 employees have been out of work. North Carolina is one of only three states nationwide that have yet to reopen gyms. Where is the science backing this. So as our numbers for covid increase you are saying ignore the data. At what point do you begin to value the lives of your constituents? Exercise at home so that the rest of us have a chance to live. We will remember this.
