Sunday Jazz Showcase
Hosted by Dr. William Bares
School is in swing, the leaves have turned and the Isis Sunday Jazz Showcase fall schedule is ripe with amazing music. This past weekend featured eight different UNC Asheville’s Jazz and Contemporary music ensembles in all their glory, from 6-11pm. As usual, they did not disappoint!Nov 30th
This weekend, we close our fall program with debuts of two groups who have yet to play the Isis: Up Jumped Three upstairs and the famous Michael Libramento downstairs.
DON’T MISS the opportunity to see these first-rate acts for the usual Isis Sunday rate (cover is $8 / free for students). Be sure to make your dinner reservations early! All shows will take place downstairs from (6-11pm).
Michael Libramento
MAIN STAGE, 8-11 pm
Michael Libramento (guitar)
Zack Page (bass); Michael W. Davis (drums)
+Bill Bares (piano); Evan Martin, Seth Kaufman (percussion)When Asheville resident Michael Libramento isn’t touring with nationally known band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, he’s usually busy wowing local audiences with his astounding versatility. He remains one of the area’s most musical drummers, bassists and keyboardists. This weekend marks Libramento’s Isis Sunday Showcase debut, and for the evening, guitar is Libramento’s instrument of choice. Come out and hear why Libramento is one of Asheville’s best-kept secrets: a subtle musician who interacts and grooves like nobody’s business. Libramento’s supporting cast is as excited about this evening as we know you will be.
Up Jumped Three
UPSTAIRS LOUNGE, 6-8 pm
Frank Southecorvo (sax); Tim Winter (guitar); Bryan White (bass)
+ Justin Watt (drums)The November 30th edition of the Asheville Original Music Night at ISIS features a new trio on the scene called “Up Jumped Three.” This creative trio features area mainstay saxophonist Frank Southecorvo, multi-instrumentalist (although guitar in this group) Tim Winter and double bassist Bryan White holding down the bottom end. This group creates an exciting brew of straight ahead swing and more contemporary musical elements. The fact that all three musicians compose music for the band makes them a perfect fit for the original music night. Drummer/percussionist Justin Watt will be joining them this evening as a special guest.
