UNC Asheville Musicians to Perform at The Mothlight, White Horse Black Mountain and Lipinsky Hall
UNC Asheville’s Department of Music will present a varied menu of concerts as the spring semester finishes, with performances at Lipinsky Hall on campus April 30, at The Mothlight in West Asheville on May 7, and at the White Horse Black Mountain on May 10.
April 30 – UNC Asheville Wind Ensemble and University Singers – Directed by UNC Asheville Director of Instrumental Studies Fletcher Peacock, the student wind ensemble will perform music by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Percy Grainger, Ron Nelson, and Louis Herald. The University Singers, directed by Chuck Taft, will perform selections from the Broadway musicals Rent, Chess and Wicked. The two ensembles will close the concert with a collaboration entitled Meridian by Ola Gjeilo. The formal program begins at 3 p.m. in UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium. A short pre-concert featuring a trombone quartet and saxophone quartet will take place in the Lipinsky Lobby at 2:45 p.m. Admission is free and open to everyone.
May 7 – UNC Asheville Jazz and Contemporary Music Ensembles, 3 p.m. at The Mothlight, 701 Haywood Rd., Asheville. $6 general admission; $4 for students.

May 10 – UNC Asheville Alumni Jam – This jazz session will feature a house band of UNC Asheville students Jacob Secor (sax), Nick O’Leary (piano), Garron Chesson (bass) and Will Younts (drums), jamming with faculty and alumni musicians. 7 p.m. at White Horse Black Mountain, 105c Montreat Rd., Black Mountain, N.C. $10 general admission; free for students.
