Hi-Wire dishes up the full monty: soccer, beer and breakfast

Say what you will about British food, but there’s nothing heartier than an English breakfast. Pair a big pub-style brekkie with a pint of ale and some football on the telly, and you have an Anglophile soccer fan’s dream come true. Starting Saturday, Feb. 1, Hi-Wire Brewing will offer just that: a full English breakfast in its tasting room along with live, televised European soccer matches.

For some time now, Hi-Wire Brewing has been dedicated to showing live European soccer matches on Saturdays and Sundays, but the breakfast component is a new addition. For $6.95, diners will get the real British deal: eggs, bacon, sausage, grilled tomatoes, baked beans and toast. One or two vegetarian options will also be available, along with hot coffee and tea. For $3 more, those who want something a little stronger, can replace their hot beverage with a pint of one of Hi-Wire’s year-round or seasonal beers.

According to Hi-Wire co-owner Adam Charnack, Paul Wilson of CanAm Catering will be doing the cooking. Wilson catered Hi-Wire’s Strongman Coffee Milk Stout release breakfast back in October, serving up a brunch spread that Charnack says was a huge success.

“He’s really talented,” says Charnack of Wilson, “and we’re extremely excited to have him cook in-house for us.”

Serving times will depend on when the games are televised.

The upcoming weeks are as follows:
Saturday, Feb. 1: Starting at 10 a.m.—Barcelona vs. Valencia followed by Manchester United vs. Stoke City; 5 p.m.—U.S.A. vs. Korea
Saturday, Feb. 8:  7:45 a.m. – Liverpool vs. Arsenal; 10 a.m. – Chelsea vs. Newcastle
