Letter: Asheville and Buncombe schools should be all one

Graphic by Lori Deaton

Who are the Democratic racists who continue to stifle the critical need for a consolidated government school system?

We all know that a streamlined all-one system for all the children and the taxpayers is the only equitable way to have true inclusion and diversity! The bloated Asheville City Schools needs to be heavily doctored and combined into Buncombe County Schools for the desired all-one effect.

It’s humiliating when these controlling bureaucrats refuse to ever mention this. From Brownie Newman, Avril Pinder, Esther Manheimer, Council and commissioners — none of them will utter a word about it.

How many millions of taxpayer $$$ can be saved per year with a truly all-one system? Who will study this to give us the answers to move forward? Who are these evil human equity deniers in our midst? Why do they want so much Democratic government school control? Call them out. Say their names. Embarrass them.

ALL ONE is not easy, but it IS equitable…headaches be damned.

Isn’t it “skrewls” and “demokrakkks”? Huh, who knew?

The standard answer has always been “because the county doesn’t want it.” But hey, there are local elections next year and it seems like an issue that the letter-writer ought to run on, given that they feel so strongly about it. Ideally run for county commission, just to find out how many people agree. If you want things to change you can’t wait around for someone else to change them.

Amen to this proposal. Consolidation will fix a myriad problems within ACS. And reduce, overall the tax burden on Asheville residents.

Why are city and county schools separate here and consolidated virtually everywhere else?

    • Mike R.

Because this is Asheville. Where attempted perfection is the enemy of the good.
Only attempting perfection only results in everything being mediocre at best, or worse.

there is NOT ONE VALID REASON why we must be forced to fund TWO separate antiquated government school systems! NOT ONE REASON.

Yes! Sing it, Enlightened Enigma! Them there skrewls need to be Heavily Doctored!

The idea itself has merit & should definitely be explored, however, the frothing-at-the-mouth trolling tone of the letter clouds any message you were trying to send. Perhaps pick up a copy of this book https://www.amazon.com/Art-Persuasion-Winning-Without-Intimidation/dp/0768413001 and give it a read.

As people have said, the county doesn’t want the headache of assimilation & the city system likes their kingdom as is, so no one in government is going to do it. It has to be pushed by the people, and by people of all political views. If you do actually care, perhaps try again w/a revised letter not filled with so much vitriol & actually start a campaign for change? It’s very easy to sit there & whine as EE on this site – it’s much harder to actually do the work to make change happen.

Um. First hold off on the Democrat bashing. Cause it shows lacking intelligence. Spewing racism on the subject has no effect. You do know that ACS are diverse right? And before you bring up the old Democratic Party and racism you’d be well advised to learn that the old Democratic Party became the Republican Party of today. Secondly, unless it became a Buncombe County school and students that were previously not allowed to attend city schools because of location, the population of the school wouldn’t change. So race plays absolutely no part! Your whole arguments is based on not liking paying ACS tax because you live in the city!

I’m guessing the writer is also an opponent of school vouchers and private education, right?

Shouldn’t all private schools be merged into the public school system too since private schools eschew diversity?

    • Enlightened Enigma

NO, I love vouchers and private education! No child of mine would be allowed to attend government screwls…

Well, at least you own up to your hypocrisy. Good job. It’s a start.

      • luther blissett

“I have no children and if I did I would never send them to public schools but I have very strong opinions about the public school system” is a compelling campaign slogan.

  8. Enlightened Enigma

All of the elected officials who avoid school consolidation are total RACISTS , ALL of them ! And most all of them ARE democrackkks !

  9. Enlightened Enigma

ALL of the BCS and ACS school officials who deny this are also ALL democrackkk RACISTS yet they scream for equity, diversity and inclusion! These people are EVIL .
