Cheese is king at the third annual Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest. Also, A pop-up comes to Gan Shan Station, food trucks rally at the Asheville Masonic Temple, free samples are offered at MetroWines and a few local restaurants bid farewell.
Each month during the warm season, Garage TRS hosts an outdoor fundraiser with live rock music, food, free beer and bike-themed entertainment. The first iteration of 2017 takes place on Thursday, March 30 and benefits Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.

This year’s VeganFest will offer two days of education, fun and plant-based food in support of the Brother Wolf Animal Sanctuary.
“We believe that we display compassion by taking home a rescue animal. But who’s going to rescue all of those animals that will be put to death to feed the animals we have rescued?”
“It is my feeling that any support that we citizens and our government can give to organizations such as Brother Wolf is an investment well worth making with incalculable returns.”
On April 14, representatives from 43 nonprofits requested funding from Buncombe County, as part of the county’s community development grant program. But these organizations make up only 9.6 percent of the total nonprofits in the county. Others rely on privately funded grants and donations, as well as individual donations — both small and large. Each organization must constantly work to grab and hold the public’s attention. And in a city like Asheville, it seems there’s never a shortage of worthy causes.

Upscale grocer Whole Foods has planned a week of mobile kitchen feasts in anticipation of the grand opening at its 4 S. Tunnel Road location. The campaign kicks off with a “community giving day” on Aug. 18, at which nonprofit Brother Wolf Animal Rescue will be the sole beneficiary of all food sales.
