Hendersonville announces “Recycling Works!” poster contest

“RECYCLING WORKS!” POSTER CONTEST

 About the Contest:

The City of Hendersonville’s Environmental Sustainability Board is sponsoring the “Recycling Works!” Poster Contest. Henderson County students in grades 9-12 are invited to create a poster that effectively and clearly highlights the importance of recycling in the City of Hendersonville. This contest is an opportunity for students to creatively express their understanding of recycling and waste reduction in our community and to spread that message to the residents of Hendersonville. The winner will have his/her artwork enlarged and displayed on the side of a Hendersonville collection truck!

Eligibility:

All 9th-12th grade students in City of Hendersonville and Henderson County public, charter, private/independent schools (including home schooled students) are eligible to enter.

Theme:

Posters should highlight the importance of recycling in the City of Hendersonville by addressing the theme of “Recycling Works!”. For more information about the City’s recycling program, materials that may be placed in the recycle carts, etc., please click here. Use your imagination and get creative!

Poster Requirements:

• Students must create their own original artwork – no copyrighted clip art, computer generated graphics, or copyrighted characters.

• Posters must reflect the theme of the contest.

• All entries must be submitted on quality paper or poster board. (No lined notebook paper!)

• Posters must be 11”x 17”

• All entries must be 2-dimensional; no glued on pieces will be accepted.

• Any medium (paint, crayon, marker, colored pencil, etc.) is acceptable, but remember that bright solid colors will reproduce better!

• Students may only submit one entry.

• Each poster must have an entry form firmly attached to the back of the poster.

• Do NOT fold poster when mailing or delivering.

• Posters are due by Wednesday, October 21, 2015. (Posters received after this date cannot be included in the contest.)

The Operations Center is open Monday – Friday from 7 AM – 5 PM, except on holidays.

Contest Reminders:

• All entries will become the property of the City of Hendersonville and will not be returned. The City of Hendersonville reserves the right to reproduce the posters, use winners’ names, schools, grade levels, and photographs in public announcements about the contest, and display winning posters on the sides of city collection trucks.

• Entries will be disqualified if the poster requirements are not met.

Judging:

• Entries will be judged by a panel from the City of Hendersonville and local arts and environmental organizations.

• The first place winner will receive a $100 gift card and have his/her artwork enlarged and displayed on a city collection truck. The second place winner will receive a $75 gift card and have his/her artwork enlarged and displayed on a city collection truck. The third place winner will receive a $50 gift card.

• Winners will be announced by America Recycles Day on November 15, 2015.

Judging Criteria:

1. Meets all eligibility criteria and poster requirements

2. Message/theme clearly communicated

3. Creativity and originality

4. Composition, design, and artistic quality

5. Visual impact, appeal, and attractiveness
