This Sunday, Sept 10 at 2 p.m., AmiciMusic’s “Cello Charm” features Eric Kutz and Daniel Weiser playing classical music. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
Many musicians have made a case for the cello being the musical instrument closest to the human voice. The lowest pitches resonate in basso profundo, while notes high up the neck enter soprano territory, and the entire range can be deeply expressive in the hands of a skilled player. Composers have long appreciated the cello’s possibilities, creating an vast repertoire that cellist Eric Kutz and pianist Daniel Weiser explore in “Cello Charm”, an AmiciMusic recital at the White Horse Black Mountain on Sunday, September 10 at 2:00 p.m. Listeners will be treated to an international program of selections by Bach, Mendelssohn, Balakirev, Barber and Casado.
The artistry of cellist Eric Kutz has captivated audiences on North America and Europe. His musical collaborations cut across genre lines, from Yo-Yo Ma to Jazz saxophonist Ornate Coleman. He’s a founding member of the award-winning Murasaki Duo, a cello and piano ensemble and perform during the summer as a member of Chicago’s Grant Park Orchestra. He’s also appeared with the New York Philharmonic and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, as well as the PBS program Live from Lincoln Center. Kutz is currently on the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Music.
AmiciMusic founder and musical director Daniel Weiser made his home in Asheville for a number of years, but now resides in Baltimore where he directs a sister performance series dedicated to bringing chamber music to a wider audience in unorthodox venues. His command of a wide range of styles and a talent for musical symbiosis enable him to partner with many excellent collaborators in his varied projects.
