The Aquarian describes MarchFourth as “a sexy carnivalesque sideshow of animalistic proportions where all sense of decorum is beaten into submission.” Parts circus, funk collective and marching band, the 20-piece outfit blends party-ready music with dance, gymnastics and enviable attire.
It’s interesting that in high school the band geeks are at the bottom of the food chain, but those who cling to their epaulettes, sousaphones and lift steps quickly climb the ranks of cool among adult touring musical acts. This could pretty much be the plot for a quirky-adorable YA novel-turned film.
Anyway, the members of Portland-based MarchFourth may or may not have been band geeks in high school but these days the acclaimed band lives on a bus and travels the country year-round. That ongoing tour brings the group to The Orange Peel on Thursday, April 16. “This genre-busting, Steamfunk Rock-n-Roll Circus Party is a one-of-a-kind, in-your-face experience NOT TO BE MISSED,” says the Facebook invite.
Showtime is 9 p.m. $12 advance/$15 day of show.
