Community Health Advisory Update
The Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 continues to receive a significant amount of attention by leadership within both our district office and individual schools. To date, there are no reported cases in Buncombe County. District leaders are in constant communication with public health officials and are jointly monitoring the potential impacts of COVID-19. At this time, BCS will not cancel or postpone events or field trips unless advised to do so by public health officials. We are encouraging healthy hygiene procedures before, during, and after these field trips. It is important to note that there is not a one-size-fits-all response to school closures or event cancellations, but we continue to work closely with our public health partners and school nurses to monitor and respond to this ever-evolving situation. Also, our school nutrition staff, who are fully trained and nationally accredited in safe food handling techniques, will continue to be vigilant about our food service procedures.The Centers for Disease Control and state and local health officials maintain that prevention measures such as hand-washing (for 20 seconds, using soap and water), staying home when sick, not touching your face, and covering coughs and sneezes are key steps in keeping illness from spreading in our community. Our school custodial staff remains diligent in keeping high touch areas and high traffic zones in our schools clean and disinfected.
The health and safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. We are working with the Buncombe County Health Department and will communicate any guidelines or updates as we receive them.
