In recognition of Black History Month this February, Asheville Parks and Recreation is producing a number of programs at community centers across the city. All events are free and open to the public.
Feb. 7, 6 -8 p.m.: Community Movie Night screening of “Selma”

Join us for a screening of the film “Selma” with a community panel discussion following the film. Hosted by Asheville FM 103.3, and moderated by Slay the Mic, panelists will include Dr. Dwight Mullen, Nicole Townsend, Stormey Harper and Maria Young. Free popcorn and drinks.
Feb. 8, 1- 4 p.m.: Past, Present, Future

A celebration of how far the African-American community has come and where it’s going. The program includes a potluck meal, guest speaker and a musical performance by a local choir.

Feb. 28, 6 – 7 p.m.: Celebrating Black History/Afterschool Project

Don’t miss our afterschool youth presentations about local African American leaders, their history, and their heritage. This evening is the finale of a month-long project to research these important residents from the Southside community and other local neighborhoods.
