About Girls Rock Asheville:
Girls Rock Asheville is a nonprofit camp that empowers youth ages 8-14 who self-identify as female, trans (across the gender spectrum), and/or gender non-binary, of all backgrounds and abilities, through music education. No experience is required, and we supply all of the instruments and gear. We offer full and partial sponsorship for campers whose families are facing economic barriers to participation. GRAVL values diversity of thought, age, race, economic status, gender expression, size, physical ability, developmental ability, musical interest, learning style, nationality, religion, citizenship status, and sexual orientation.
All proceeds from the Queer Prom go directly to Girls Rock Asheville (GRAVL) to fund scholarships for youth who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend camp this summer and to continue to offer creative, enriching, inspiring programming for our local youth. Girls Rock Asheville is about so much more than learning and performing music. At camp our youth build self-confidence and learn how to take up space and find their voice. They attend many social justice workshops, including racial equity and gender equity.
Sadly, each year Girls Rock Asheville turns away many youth in our community. We have a long waiting list, but we do not have the capacity to serve all our youth within our current budget. Our goals for 2020 are ambitious! We wish to increase the size of camp by 50%! We hope to eliminate our waiting list so that all youth have the opportunity to experience our camp. Most of our campers are on either a full or partial scholarship, so the amount we need to raise to increase our camp by 50% is $4000.
