Brevard Lumberyard Arts District throws block party Nov. 5

To celebrate an incredible year of growth at the Lumberyard Arts District in Brevard, the businesses in that neighborhood will be throwing a block party this Saturday, November 5, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. The public is invited to come and enjoy an afternoon of art, food, and music. Maps, with a schedule of events, will be available at each business for a walking tour of the neighborhood. The list of participating businesses and schedule of events includes:

185 King Street

World-class live music, sports, and more in a comfortable and welcoming venue.

• 12:00–8:00pm: Open House • Raffle for two year-long memberships • Watch college football games • 8:00pm: Live Music by Ras Alan

Faulkner Woodworking

Timber frame construction & fine woodworking.

• Displays & demonstrations

Lumberyard Studios

The working studio of artists Jenni Barton, Bradford Carson, Cathy Goden, Tiffany Teso- Fisher, and Jessica Carson.

• Demonstrating a variety of art forms

• Works-in- progress of sculpture, oil painting, and mosaic work on display by Cathy Goden

• 1:00–3:00pm: Photographer Tiffany Teso-Fisher experiments with encaustic art, and mixed-media artist Jessica Carson works with stained glass

• 3:00–5:00pm: Performance artist Jennifer Barron works with wool, wool & more wool.

• 5:00–7:00pm: Open Music Jam. Bring an instrument or two and join in! Instrumentalist Bradford Carson teaches a variety of instruments at the studio and will be joining this musical rendezvous.

Squatch Bikes & Brews

A full-service, state of the art bike shop.

• Pivot bike demonstrations
• Beers and new product demos

• Warm up at the fire pit in their courtyard

Magpie Meat & Three

Classic Southern flavors and time-tested dishes in an inviting, comfortable atmosphere.

Lumberyard Courtyard

The space located in the center of the Lumberyard.

1:00–2:00pm: Live Music by the Steel String Regulators

4:00–5:00pm: Live Music by Creekside Crawfish (JAM: Junior Appalachian Musicians)

5:00–6:00pm: Brevard Ballet presents excerpts from its all-new second act of The Nutcracker. Brevard Ballet’s version of the holiday favorite is based on the Silversteen family and set at Silvermont in the 1920’s. See dancers representing exotic lands and sweet treats including Spanish hot chocolate, Arabian coffee and Russian candy. Brevard Ballet will present The Nutcracker in its entirety on Sunday, December 18th at 5 pm at the Jones Auditorium, Brevard High School.

7:00–8:00pm: Live Music by Chicken Fried Possum FOOD TRUCKS: Amazing Pizza Company, Simply Nuts Boiled Peanuts, The Velvet Cup, and Wild Indigo Catering

The Haen Gallery

14,000 square feet of stunning paintings, photography, and sculpture by local, national, and international artists.

• New work includes monumental, sculpted paintings by David Leas; the whimsical creations of French born painter Catherine Earle, and new paintings by Brevard artist Mark Carter and encaustics by Asheville artist Mary Farmer.

Amazing finds, salvaged materials, antiques, and unique furniture.

• 1-1/4 acres with treasures arriving daily. New items include salvaged materials from an old barn, an 1800s horse-drawn, wagon, and more.

The businesses in the Lumberyard Arts District are working hard to breathe new life into a great neighborhood with a long history. They believe in the power of the arts to create exciting opportunities and beautiful spaces where amazing things can happen. They invite you to join in this celebratory day.

The historic Lumberyard Arts District is located between King and West French Broad Streets in Brevard. Please park in designated parking areas and along King, W. French Broad & Whitmire Streets. There is also parking in the grassy area of Railroad Iron Studio on Railroad Avenue.
