Press release from Friends of the Smokies:
Friends of the Smokies will host the second annual Smokies Stomp Barn Party on Saturday, July 20 at Hickory Nut Gap Farm. Attendees will be treated to a gourmet farm-to-table dinner, live music by Buncombe Turnpike, a curated silent auction, and square dancing called by Representative Joe Sam Queen (NC-119). Proceeds from the evening will help provide more than $1 million in park support for 2019.
“The first Smokies Stomp Barn Party was a huge success, with more than $60,000 raised for our favorite national park,” says Meridith Powell, Friends of the Smokies Board Director, “We’re excited for an even bigger event this year, so expect more fun and more opportunity to support the Smokies.”
This year’s live fund-a-cause will raise money for the final stages of a comprehensive upgrade of Great Smoky Mountains National Park’s radio communications system—a crucial component of the day-to-day protection of visitors, natural resources, and first responders. Each year, park emergency and law enforcement personnel engage in hundreds of calls for emergency medical assistance, search and rescue operations, traffic accidents, and major weather events. More than half of the park’s 520,000+ acres are in Western North Carolina and just a short drive from Asheville.
The curated silent auction will include several experience packages, including a trip to Nashville for the 53rd Country Music Awards, a Christmas at Dollywood package, an island getaway near Charleston, South Carolina, and a private tour of East Fork Pottery’s production facility with owners Matt and Connie Matisse.
The Smokies Stomp Barn Party is sponsored by Wandering Rose Travels, Webb Investment Services, Bank of America, Blue Ghost Brewing Company, Navitat Canopy Adventures, White Labs, Allegra, Beverly-Hanks, Biltmore Farms, Biltmore Wines, Dan and Deener Matthews, David Huff Creative, Dixon Hughes Goodman, Dominion Energy, First Citizens Wealth Management, Gaia Herbs, Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, Insurance Service of Asheville, Jim and Jan Hart, Ken Wilson Ford, Mast General Store, Nantahala Outdoor Center, Roberts and Stevens, Saunders DDS, Premier Sotheby’s International Realty, Tim & Marilyn Wright, and Wildland Trekking.
