Two of the most popular programs of the Madison County Arts Council will be offering summer camp options for young folks. First Stage Youth Theatre has a long history of providing drama instruction and theater experience for students ages 8-14 during the summer . “We are dedicated to nurturing and developing a deeper appreciation of the arts for the youth of Western North Carolina. By allowing students to explore various artistic disciplines through our in-school and summer theatre arts education programs, it is our goal to develop in students valuable life skills such as creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and a greater sense of self-esteem,” commented Kristi DeVille, FSYT Director. The first camp will be held June 14-17 from 9:00 -1:30 at the Spring Creek Community Center the fee is $75. The Marshall camp will be held at The Madison County Arts Center July 11-15 and the third weel will be hosted by The First Baptist Church in Mars Hill July 18-22. The Marshall and Mars Hill camps run from 9:00 – 4:00 and the fee is $150.
New this year, JAM camp! JAM camp is an extension of our Junior Appalachian Musician’s Program held afterschool during the school year. Camp will be held at the Madison County Arts Center, July25-29 from 9:30 – 2:00 and the fee is $150. All classes are instrumental. We will strengthen skills in banjo, fiddle, guitar and string band. Students must have had one year of JAM instruction or be able to play with some competency. Banjo and fiddle students should be able to play two tunes and guitar players should know three chords. Each day there will be an enrichment class with special guests.
