Press release:
We’re having a party and we want you there!
Background
2014 marked the 50th anniversary of The Wilderness Act, the legislation that established the National Wilderness Preservation System and recognized the importance of Wilderness as a resource for generations to come. In celebration of this important anniversary, the Southern Appalachian Office of The Wilderness Society partnered with Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine to create the Dirty Dozen Wilderness Hike Challenge. Over 550 people accepted the challenge and have spent their free time over the past year hiking in wilderness, experiencing and discovering wild places in the Southeast. The Challenge: Hike 10+ miles in 12 Wilderness Areas in the Southeast. The Party

We will take a few minutes during the event to award prizes to the winners of the hike challenge prize categories, and recognize those who completed the challenge. All hike challenge participants, family and friends, and the public are invited. A cash bar will also be available.
