PRESS RELEASE:

What: Central UMC Sanctuary Concert Series

Where: Central United Methodist Church

When: Friday, June 24th

Who: The Kruger Brothers $25

Central United Methodist Church is pleased to present its Sanctuary Concert Series for 2016. Throughout the summer, Central will be bringing prime musical talent with international ties and from across the nation, to its historical sanctuary for an intimate concert series in the heart of downtown.

The concert series opens on Friday, June 24th at 8pm, as Central partners with Orange Peel Events, NewSong Music and Wild South to bring you The Kruger Brothers. The Kruger Brothers, Jens and Uwe were born and raised in Europe and were exposed to music from a very young age. By the time they were 12 years old, the brothers were making regular performances throughout Europe and had begun their professional career in 1979. In the early 90’s, the Kruger Brothers teamed up with bass player and New York Native, Joel Landsberg and the duo became a trio. The trio has been performing professionally together since 1995 with an actual relocation for the brothers to Wilkesboro, NC in 2002.

With musical roots steeped in the rich and traditional sounds of classical, jazz and bluegrass music, “the Kruger Brothers personify the spirit of exploration and innovation that forms the core of the American musical tradition. Their original music is crafted around their discerning taste, and the result is unpretentious, cultivated, and delightfully fresh.” (Kruger Brothers Biography)

The Kruger Brothers will be playing a traditional, seated concert in the Sanctuary of Central United Methodist Church, downtown Asheville. This concert is important as a portion of the proceeds will benefit “Wild South” a local environmental nonprofit whose mission is to “inspire people to enjoy, value and protect the wild character and natural legacy of the South.”

The Kruger Brothers appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman in 2013, where they performed their piece “Jack of the Wood” (inspired by and named after Asheville’s very own Jack of the Wood). The brothers were accompanied by Steve Martin, who played clawhammer banjo on the tune. Jens Kruger, the brother’s banjo player has been described as, “one of the world’s most musically sophisticated and technically accomplished five-string banjo players,” and in 2013 he won the Steve Martin Award for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass Music.

“The Kruger Brothers are just about as fine a band as I’ve ever played with. … I love to play music with them.” (Doc Watson)  Tickets are selling fast and this will be a show you won’t want to miss!
Tickets for the Kruger Brothers Concert can be purchased from the Orange Peel (Kruger Brothers show) or by contacting Central United Methodist Church at (828) 253-3316. To learn more about the Central Sanctuary Concert Series, please visit centralumc.org/events.
